How My Son Changed My Life

Dear Friend of Life,

Just a couple months ago, I returned to work at Sidewalk Advocates for Life, post-maternity leave, after the birth of my first born, Andrew.  It was wonderful to spend about two months with my son, getting to know him — and trying to get sleep when possible!   There are few things more precious in life than the smile of a new baby, and I truly have felt blessed to have this new addition to my life.

After spending time with my son, I really have become more committed to the pro-life movement.  As I have been reading stories about children lost to abortion, I can’t help but see them as Andrew.  As much as I was passionate about the pro-life cause prior to his birth, he now puts a face to the cause for me.  When I look at every child as my son — even for that moment — it is part of the acknowledgement that every life has the same inherent dignity and worth as him.  All children — no matter how big or small — have dignity that is truly worth fighting for.

That inherent dignity doesn’t end with children, though.  All humans have that same inherent, God-given dignity; thus, we need to ensure we are treating everyone we meet in the fight for life with the same level of respect — and, most importantly, love.  Remember: that same inherent dignity is present in the abortion worker, the escort volunteering their time at the abortion facility, and the parents of that preborn child in danger of abortion.  Just as I see every child as my own son, we should challenge ourselves to see each human being as a brother or sister, son or daughter, grandchild, friend, etc., in order to help us better convey the life-saving love that comes from Christ Himself.

We want better for them because everyone deserves better than abortion.

As I return to work, I return with a new level of passion to fight for the unborn because of the joy my son has brought to my life.  He is who I am fighting for now.  He is the face that reminds me what we are trying to protect.

Blessings in Christ,

BI-WEEKLY DEVOTIONAL (AUGUST 16-29, 2015): “HEALING MINISTRY”

by Dr. Pat Castle, President / Founder, National LIFE Runners Team(NOTE: This devotional originally appeared at liferunners.org.)

Verse(s): “It was in the name of Jesus Christ the Nazorean whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead; in His name this man stands before you healed.  There is no salvation through anyone else.” ~ Acts 4:10-12

Reflection:  As with the Apostles, the healing power of Christ is in all of us.  (We) help heal those who were hurt by abortion.  With nearly 1 in 3 women experiencing abortion in their lifetime, there are so many healing opportunities around us.  May we have the courage to reach out to post-abortion women compassionately (to suffer with).I recently heard about a teenage LIFE Runner being offered the pill by a dermatologist as a way to moderate hormones for controlling acne.  The teenage LIFE Runner and her mom had an opportunity to share about the slippery slope of contraception for abortion.  Based on the angry response from the dermatologist, she could be post-abortion.  Half of abortions are not first time abortions, so this encounter may have prevented future abortions.  In the Ukraine, women have an average of 14 abortions in their lifetime.

…Imagine those first few steps out of the upper room when the Apostles went out to evangelize the whole world.  There were only 12 Apostles then and now, there are over 2 billion Christians.  ….With the power of the Holy Spirit within us, we are taking steps to heal and elevate our culture and all cultures to respect life from conception to eternity.

Faith Challenge: When sharing the reality of abortion with others, deliver the truth with compassion as someone listening is likely suffering from the regret of choosing abortion.
