Dear Friend of Life:
In the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic, Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry is open for business. In fact, we are receiving reports that some facilities have not only kept normal hours, but they are telling people to come in as soon as possible in case our government mandates a quarantine in the near future.
Knowing that most women seeking abortion do so because of financial concerns, there’s no doubt they are using the economic uncertainty of the Coronavirus crisis to sell even more women the lie of abortion as a solution.
Sidewalk Advocates for Life (SAFL) remains committed to providing our Sidewalk Advocates at nearly 200 locations with the training, tools, and — most especially now — the SUPPORT needed to continue connecting abortion-minded women with life-affirming alternatives.
As our locations seek to comply with federal and local guidelines for public safety, SAFL is working tirelessly to monitor the situation and adjust strategies as needed; our goal is to ensure that Sidewalk Advocates have the best available information to carry out their life-saving mission.
Currently, all Sidewalk Advocates have been instructed to find a balance in maintaining coverage at the abortion facility when possible while also working to fight the spread of the deadly Coronavirus. Truly, the pro-life community has a duty to protect ALL life, and it is in the spirit of this commitment that SAFL has laid out new guidelines in navigating the next few weeks:
- All Sidewalk Advocates have been asked to adhere to President Trump’s Coronavirus Guidelines for America, as well as any additional guidelines from their local health officials. This includes recommendations for social distancing and hygiene.
- Sidewalk Advocates who are especially vulnerable to COVID-19, including older Advocates and those with serious underlying health conditions, have been encouraged to join us in prayer from their homes. Advocates should consider all risk factors for contracting and spreading the virus when discerning whether or not to go to the sidewalk.
- All local Program Directors have been asked to maintain a small but effective presence in front of abortion facilities when possible, with generally no more than four Advocates reaching out on the sidewalk at one time. Being that our outreach isn’t dependent on large groups and focuses, instead, on one-on-one conversations with abortion-minded women, this will not interfere with our effectiveness.
- Leaders have also been asked to postpone any in-person trainings or events for at least two weeks.
We have made these recommendations with the understanding that, as things may change from moment to moment, we will monitor the situation closely and keep in touch.
Sidewalk Advocates have a reputation for being generous with their time in front of abortion facilities — truly, this dedication has led to over 8,000 lives saved in our short history! But we also know that we have a duty to protect Sidewalk Advocates and other vulnerable members of the community. For those who will not be on the sidewalk during the pandemic — knowing the foundation of all we do is prayer — SAFL has invited them to redouble their prayer efforts for our cause from home.
During this unique time in our nation’s history, we humbly ask all of you to join us in prayer as we seek the wisdom needed to valiantly carry out our mission to save lives and end abortion through the power of His love. And if your heart is moved to do more to support our cause during this uncertain time, we invite you to make a gift in our Spring Matching Fund Campaign at sidewalkadvocates.org/donate.
Thank you for standing with us!
Blessings in Christ,
Sidewalk Advocates for Life
