Pledge of Integrity

I pledge the following:

  • I am eligible to volunteer as a Sidewalk Advocate.
    • I am in no way associated with Planned Parenthood or the abortion industry as a volunteer, employee, donor, or supporter.
    • I have not been convicted of a felony, and/or I am not currently pending trial for one. I have never been fined or convicted of any crime (misdemeanor or felony) involving my actions in or around an abortion facility.
    • I have completed the Sidewalk Advocates for Life (SAFL) Basic Training through a SAFL Program Leader affiliated with an official SAFL location, and/or I have been accepted as a new Program Leader to start an SAFL location.
  • I will be peaceful, prayerful, and law-abiding while volunteering with Sidewalk Advocates for Life.
    • I will show compassion and Christ’s love toward all abortion-vulnerable women and men, and toward all abortion facility employees and volunteers.
    • I will not threaten, assault, or verbally abuse any abortion-vulnerable woman or man, or any abortion facility employee or volunteer.
    • I will use only peaceful and/or help-oriented signs while volunteering with SAFL on the sidewalk in front of an abortion facility. I will not publicly display images of abortion victims during outreach.
    • I will not post or stream any photos, videos, or identifying information of anyone at the abortion facility on social media without his/her permission.
    • I will not obstruct driveways, sidewalks, or the public right-of-way while acting as a Sidewalk Advocate.
    • I will not litter the public right-of-way.
    • I will not damage private property.
    • I will respectfully cooperate with police and local authorities. I will comply with requests from law enforcement on the sidewalk, and address any legal grievance through SAFL legal counsel (i.e., the Thomas More Society).
    • I understand that any violent, harmful, illegal, or inappropriate behavior on the sidewalk immediately and completely dissociates me from the SAFL program.
  • I will refer abortion-vulnerable women and men to loving, life-affirming, quality resources.
    • I understand that I and/or my local Program Leader(s) have a responsibility to vet the center(s) and organizations to which we refer abortion-vulnerable clients.
    • I will refer clients to a pregnancy resource/help center that is accessible to clients and provides accurate information and quality resources or, if necessary, a suitable alternative service that provides the same.
    • I will refer clients to centers or organizations that provide assistance regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, disability, marital status, or immigration status.
    • I will refer clients only for services that respect the dignity and uniqueness of God's creation of man and woman from the moment of fertilization until natural death, as well as God’s design of sexuality, marriage, and family. I will not refer clients for services that violate SAFL’s core values.
    • I will not offer post-abortion resources to a client before an abortion has occurred.
    • I will refer clients who express an interest in the option of adoption to organizations/agencies which respect both the dignity of the birth parents and the right of an adopted child to be placed in a family with a married mother and father.
  • I will respect the program, materials, and intellectual property of Sidewalk Advocates for Life.
    • I will do my best to follow the guidelines given in the SAFL training, and, when in doubt, I will contact my local Program Leader or the SAFL National Team for help.
    • I acknowledge that the training, workbook, materials, technology, program, name, logo, and branding are the work product of SAFL and may be protected by copyright or trademark.
    • I understand that approved use of SAFL intellectual property is limited to activities and events related to sidewalk outreach at an approved SAFL location. I will not use any part of SAFL intellectual property outside of the program without express permission from the National Team.
    • I understand that I am expected to comply with terms of this pledge whenever I affiliate myself with SAFL (e.g., by wearing SAFL merchandise, distributing SAFL branded materials, etc.).
  • I acknowledge that my status as a participant in this program is as a volunteer; if I choose to go out to the sidewalk after being trained by this program, I assume all possible risks while on the sidewalk including, but not limited to: injury, physical attack, emotional abuse, stolen property, death, etc.
  • I understand that any violation of this pledge may result in my dismissal from the SAFL program, subject to the discretion of the SAFL National Team, and the proper application of this document is ultimately determined by the SAFL Board of Directors

Babies saved:

A baby is recorded as a “save” when a pregnant woman accepts our offer of help at the local pregnancy resource center (PRC), verbally shares that she has chosen life, or gives us very clear signs that she has chosen life.
