The Need & Our Response

The Crisis of Abortion

An estimated 958,050 abortions were performed in the U.S. from January to November 2024, on track to exceed 1 million by the year’s end.1

Approximately 765 abortion facilities were operational in the United States in 2024.

Sidewalk Advocates for Life is present, offering life-affirming alternatives, outside 30% these facilities, as well as abortion-referral facilities (see sidewalkadvocates.org/locations).

The Impact of Abortion

Not only has abortion affected our children, but others have been hurt by its consequences as well…

Mothers

It’s estimated that nearly 1 in 4 women will have an abortion in their lifetime.4 Millions of women have been wounded by abortion, left to deal with great physical, emotional, and spiritual effects from their choice.

Families

Millions of fathers, siblings, grandparents, and other family members have been pushed to the sidelines to deal with  the pain and regret of an abortion experience in their family.

Young People

Young adults are being sold a ‘bill of goods’ by the abortion industry that a lifestyle of sexual promiscuity is without consequence, resulting in unexpected pregnancies and rampant STDs.

Media

The international and national media have taken a pro-abortion position, portraying faithful, pro-life advocates in a negative light.

Believers

Followers of Jesus Christ and church communities have become silent or apathetic about abortion, at times, failing to “speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves” (Prov 31:8).

Culture

Our society has bought into the idea that abortion is so commonplace now that it’s okay to be complacent about the greatest tragedy of our times.

Our Response

Sidewalk Advocates for Life offers a peaceful, prayerful law-abiding program that trains and equips teams of volunteers to provide life-affirming alternatives to all those who enter and exit their local abortion or abortion-referral facility.

Through loving dialogue, our trained Sidewalk Advocates offer pregnancy and parenting help, medical- and material-resource referrals, post-abortion healing, and support for workers seeking to leave the industry.

A Cause for Hope ...

Former abortion providers tell us sidewalk outreach was the activity that most devastated their business.

According to former Planned Parenthood Director Abby Johnson, when there is a peaceful, prayerful presence in front of an abortion facility, Planned Parenthood regularly documents up to a 75% cancellation rate.

“And Then There Were None” abortion-worker ministry reports that about half of the workers coming to them for help received information about the ministry from a Sidewalk Advocate.

Hopeful saves:

A “hopeful save” is recorded when a pregnant woman leaves the abortion/abortion-referral facility still pregnant to “think about it,” armed with life-affirming literature and a referral to the local pregnancy resource center

Babies saved:

A baby is recorded as a “save” when a pregnant woman accepts our offer of help at the local pregnancy resource center (PRC), verbally shares that she has chosen life, or gives us very clear signs that she has chosen life.
