Virtual Training Instructionsfor Program Leaders
The Sidewalk Advocates for Life program is designed to help you build a local team of Sidewalk Advocates who work together to save lives and end abortion in your community.
Ideally, leaders prepare their teams through in-person, group training and fellowship to inspire team building. But, for situations where it is not possible or practical to host an in-person training, we are happy to offer this alternative, virtual training option.
Thank you for your dedication to this vital mission, and please don’t hesitate to email the Programs Team at programs@sidewalkadvocates.org with any questions.
Who is Eligible for Virtual Training:
- Any current Sidewalk Advocate who has completed Basic Training 1.0, but has not completed Basic Training 2.0
- Any current Sidewalk Advocate who has completed Basic Training 2.0, but would like a refresher
- Any new, prospective Sidewalk Advocate who can provide a credible character reference and demonstrable interest in peaceful, prayerful, loving, and law-abiding outreach
How It Works:
- Individuals who wish to attend the virtual training must first complete the brief application at sidewalkadvocates.org/trainingapp. The SAFL National Team will quickly review the application and forward it to the Program Leader(s) upon approval. (Note: The virtual training application is only for those who are brand new to Sidewalk Advocates for Life; current Sidewalk Advocates who wish to take the virtual training should not submit an application.)
- The Program Leader(s) will coordinate with approved applicants to get them their Basic Training 2.0 workbook and login information and instructions for accessing the Online Training Headquarters. Program Leaders should let all virtual trainees know that they are encouraged to complete the training within 4 weeks of receiving their workbook.
- Upon completion of the ten training modules (approximately 5 hours) hosted on the Online Training Headquarters, the trainee will be prompted to electronically sign a Certification of Completion (a statement that he or she has completed the entire Basic Training 2.0) and the Pledge of Integrity. (Program Leaders will receive copies of the electronically signed documents and must ensure receipt of both documents before adding someone to a sidewalk schedule as an official Sidewalk Advocate.)
- OPTIONAL: Once you have virtually trained your next round of Sidewalk Advocates in Basic Training 2.0, we can schedule a live, online Q & A strategizing session with a few members of the SAFL National Team via Zoom. Please request this option through the Programs Department.
Important
- In order to take advantage of the virtual training, individuals must have both the current login information to the Online Training Headquarters AND their own Basic Training 2.0 workbook, which they will keep and use as a reference manual for years to come.
- If you already have Basic Training 2.0 workbooks, you can print a copy of the login info and tuck it into the workbook OR email it to participants. We will provide this document as an attachment when we forward approved applications to you. (Please do not give access to the Online Training Headquarters until the individual has been approved and has received their workbook.)
- Until further notice, all new orders of workbooks will automatically include the login info as a courtesy, so you don’t necessarily need to print or email it separately. Please remember to make sure you are offering the most current password information. Email the Programs Department if you have questions.
How Leaders Invite Prospective and Current Advocates to Participate:
- Prospective Sidewalk Advocates can access the virtual training application at sidewalkadvocates.org/trainingapp.
- Program leaders can invite friends/family/pro-life contacts to become a Sidewalk Advocate by sharing that link in a personal email, call or text.
- When people express interest in the unique method you are using on the sidewalk, you can consider inviting them to fill out the application and take the virtual training.
- Please avoid posting the virtual application link to public websites or social media. If you have a large email list or social media following, you can send a message that invites people to ask you about how to become a Sidewalk Advocate. Then you can determine if they are eligible for virtual training before providing the link.
