Dear Friend of Life,
Yesterday, our Program Manager, Bethany, messaged me: Can you take a quick call? You want to hear this! 🙂
I called her back, knowing this work brings us no shortage of interesting stories!
She said, “Okay, let me read you something… Hello, Lauren, this is A, we met when you were outside of the abortion clinic in Tampa, FL…“
I gasped. “Oh my goodness!” I said, tears springing to my eyes.
I instantly went back to that morning on the sidewalk — just a few weeks ago — when I was visiting Florida and a couple of us on the National Team, along with a fellow Sidewalk Advocate, went to the local abortion facility to peacefully and prayerfully reach out to clients.
This was the second young woman who had turned away from the abortion facility that morning; she had obviously utilized the phone number on the Blessing Bag we had given her to reach back out via text (connected to Bethany’s phone).
Bethany chuckled and kept going, “…I just want to let you know, thank you so much for altering my decision about keeping my baby, things are going to be a little ruff, but I’m willing to make things happen for my baby. I’m due (late Spring) and …very excited to meet him!!!“
“That’s so great! I’m so glad she reached out!” I exclaimed.
I also realized that God had answered her prayers in another way: She had two little girls at home, and some of the family with her that morning let us know that they were also trying to sway her into a decision for life because “this might be her boy.”
When I heard the end of her message — “very excited to meet HIM” — I suddenly realized that an ultrasound no doubt confirmed she was having a boy ...and she could have, quite possibly, aborted the gift of her only son.
I asked Bethany to forward me the text, and I wrote her back: “Hi, A! This is Lauren… I am so excited to hear from you!! And we are so proud of you!! You made such a wonderful, courageous decision for your little boy!! Is there anything you need? We’d be happy to help any way we can!! We love you!!”
“P.S. — Call or text anytime. :)”
About 30 minutes later, she wrote back to say that she was doing well, she had everything she needed for the time being, and again, she felt like we “were a huge help” in sorting through everything that morning.
We traded a few more texts, offering to connect her with another ministry in the area, if helpful, and throw her a baby shower! The good news is that she took us up on the baby shower since she had nothing for a little boy.
We’re now planning a baby shower for early Spring! What a gift to celebrate the life of this little boy and his mother who chose life!
This is what it means to be the hands and feet of Jesus: standing in the gap for mothers and fathers, speaking words of peace and love and life into their lives, especially when the culture and the abortion industry has lied to them and told them that abortion will solve their problems.
Consider this: Former abortion providers have told us that peaceful, prayerful sidewalk advocacy was the activity that most devastated their business! And it’s not a wonder! Prayer, love and the offer of free services at the local pregnancy center — it’s all so powerful!
Can you imagine the life-saving impact if we could build a team of peaceful, prayerful advocates in front of every abortion facility in the U.S. and beyond?
This is our dream.
In just 2.5 years of ministry, we’ve grown to cover about 15% of U.S. abortion facilities (101 locations, total) and witnessed almost 1,600 precious babies saved, 38 workers who have left the business, 2 facility closures and a host of other blessings!
What God is doing is nothing short of amazing!
