It’s His Decision, Too

When Linda saw the couple approaching the abortion facility, the woman went running inside—but the man stayed outside. At first Linda hesitated, but her partner on the sidewalk encouraged her to approach the man.

“If you don’t mind me asking,” she said to him, “what are you here for?”

“I’m here to help my girlfriend,” he said. “She wants to do it. It’s her decision.”

Linda responded, “It’s your decision, too.” The man seemed shocked. He echoed:

It’s my decision, too? …I can really do something?

“Yes! You have a say! You can go in there and talk to her, and show this to her,” Linda said, handing him a brochure. “There’s a pregnancy center right here.”

The man went into the facility and brought his girlfriend out, showing her the brochure. She started crying and went back inside.

Linda encouraged him to go in after her. “You can be a hero,” she told him. “She is scared and looking for a good man like you to show her support, safety, and help.”

He went back into the facility.

Watching and waiting, Linda prayed on the sidewalk. Finally, the couple came out, and Linda could see the man showing his girlfriend the brochure again. She looked up and made eye contact with Linda.

“You can call,” Linda told her. “They’re waiting for you.”

The couple got into their car. Before driving away, the man gave Linda a thumbs-up – and he was smiling.

So often, all a mom needs is her partner’s support to give her the courage to choose life. That’s why it’s so important to connect with each man we see on the sidewalk — to let him know he is a father. He does have a say. And he can do something to protect his baby and his baby’s mom from the tragedy of abortion.
