From a Sidewalk Encounter to a Shower Celebration

Now that the issue of abortion has returned to state leaders to decide, it is more important than ever for us to demonstrate that the pro-life movement is about more than just saying “no” to abortion. It’s about saying “yes” to life! One of our Program Leaders, Lisa, shared what it looks like to say “yes” to life on the sidewalk and beyond.

While outside a local abortion facility, Lisa saw a distraught young man. She asked him, “Sir, can I help you?” He shared that he’d dropped off his girlfriend. Lisa urged him, “You need to get her out.” He replied with the well-worn mantra, “Well, her body, her choice.” “That’s a lie,” Lisa responded. “They just tell you that so you won’t intervene.”

She went on to explain, “I have resources for you. There’s a (mobile pregnancy clinic) across the street that will give you … help.” The young man thought for a while, and then said, Okay. I’ll go get her.”

Lisa waited for the couple to emerge from the abortion facility — but then she faced a new challenge: the young woman did not want to visit the mobile unit. That’s when Lisa shared her own abortion experience:

“I was 22, and no one was there to help me. God … brings me out here to help women who need to know the truth.”

The couple finally agreed to visit the mobile unit, where, by the grace of God, they turned away from abortion and chose life for their baby!! Lisa asked if she could keep in touch, and the mom agreed. Lisa prayed for them and occasionally texted the girl to see how she was doing and to ask if she needed any resources.

In response to one of her texts, Lisa received a surprise: an invitation to the mom’s baby shower! At the shower, the young woman’s mother thanked Lisa for being on the sidewalk that fateful day. Her daughter echoed the sentiment, explaining that she had been unsure about the abortion, and it was meeting Lisa that changed her mind. Thanks to that encounter, the couple and their families welcomed a precious baby boy!
