Verse(s): “‘Look! You are to conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you must name him Jesus. …The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will cover you with its shadow. And so the child will be holy and will be called Son of God. And I tell you this too: your cousin Elizabeth also, in her old age, has conceived a son, and she whom people called barren is now in her sixth month, for nothing is impossible to God.'” — Luke 1:31,35-37
Reflection: The angel appeared to Mary and told her that she would conceive of the Messiah – before it even happened, let alone before the baby was born! Not only are we protecting babies that have already been conceived, in our work with Sidewalk Advocates for Life, we’re protecting babies that God knew before they were even conceived. Inconceivable? Read verse 37 again.
As we work day in and day out to train people to stand in the gap and save babies’ lives, let’s remember that we have the power and wisdom of the Holy Trinity behind us in all that we do. We see the whole Trinity in these verses… God the Father sent the angel to tell Mary that God the Son would be born to her because God the Holy Spirit would overshadow her. The power of all three of them is in this passage – and that power is behind everything we do. Let’s keep that in mind when our giant looks huge!
We have come a long way in the last year – saving almost 300 babies from being killed, and who knows how many more “hopefuls” then turned into saves as well! We have seen many abortion clinics close due to our work and the answers to our prayer. We still have a long way to go – many more clinics to close and lives to save. But thanks be to God, Mary’s yes to God brings the power of Jesus into our work, so that we can help women all over the country say YES to bringing THEIR babies into this world, as well.
When things seem hard, and we become tired as little humans in doing the good work He calls us to, let us remember that last verse. Nothing is impossible to God.
Faith Challenge: Let us pray today, in the faith of knowing that nothing is impossible to Him, that all of the abortion clinics in the world will be closed.
