Shortly after the Supreme Court released its Dobbs decision, overturning Roe v. Wade, Jackie turned to Windy, her partner on the sidewalk, and said, “We really need to talk to the Governor about this. This is an opportune time.”
So, the two Sidewalk Advocates reached out to the office of Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy and made an appointment to meet with him.
“I called his scheduling office. It was super easy,” Windy says.
In their half-hour meeting with the Governor, the Sidewalk Advocates had the opportunity to share what they do on the sidewalk and to tell the Governor how strongly they support his pro-life efforts. “We’re just here to support you and share with you what we do, some thoughts on what other governors have done,” they told him.
Jackie and Windy were pleased to hear the Governor’s strong interest in pregnancy centers. They provided him with two big reports on US pregnancy centers – one from Heartbeat International and one from the Charlotte Lozier Institute.
It’s not every pro-life individual who would think of reaching out to her or his governor to meet and discuss life issues – but Windy and Jackie don’t view it as anything out of the ordinary.
“Honestly, I would encourage any Sidewalk Advocate, and go further to say, any Christian, who has a burden on their heart, ” Windy says. “I feel like we accomplished whatever it was the Lord wanted us to do.”
