A Chilling Look at an Abortion Destination

A personal note from our Founder, President & CEO

Dear Friends of Life,

A handful of months ago, I had an unexplainable tug on my heart to visit one of the burgeoning abortion-tourist states in post-Roe America: New Mexico.

As the leader of America’s largest sidewalk outreach organization – and a proud native-born Texan myself, gratefully living in a state that protects life at conception – I had heard that some Texas women facing an unexpected pregnancy were leaving our state to travel there for an abortion.

In fact, Sidewalk Advocates in New Mexico told us that there were rumblings that the number of abortion facilities was soon going to triple – or even quadruple – in the state.

These were questions I knew we needed to answer if we were going to save lives and end abortion in this new landscape: How do we reach women in crisis before they’re tempted to travel 300 miles to the next-nearest abortion facility? Then, how do we help mothers to choose life after their crisis has moved them to invest so much time, energy, and money into traveling across state lines?

Once on the ground in New Mexico, I was shocked to realize how abortion-restricted states and abortion destinations were connected in this huge system to funnel and exploit mothers in crisis.

Please check out the 14-minute documentary of my journey – including powerful commentaries by those who are on the front lines in this abortion-destination state – and our vision for reaching women before they cross state lines. (Click on the video below to watch and share.)

As soon as I got home, I wanted to shout from the rooftops how important it was for those of us in pro-life states to stay the course and continue praying and reaching out at abortion-referral facilities or in high traffic areas in our communities.

This isn’t a scenario limited to New Mexico.

At our annual conference last October, our National Team met with, comforted, and encouraged Sidewalk Advocates from other abortion destinations, like Colorado, Kansas, Illinois, North Carolina, Oregon and more, because their work got harder after the Dobbs decision. In short, Sidewalk Advocates have to be ready to connect women not only with resources on site, but resources in their home communities. Simultaneously, we urge those in abortion-restricted states to not give up.

The call is clear: For the sake of lives and souls and God’s glory, Sidewalk Advocates for Life must cover all uncovered abortion and abortion-referral facilities as soon as possible.

To fulfill that call, we’ve launched our “Every Sidewalk, Every Soul” campaign to help our ministry grow to cover all 777 facilities in the U.S. And this spring, a generous group of Ministry Partners has come together to offer a matching gift challenge to help us meet this critical goal.

Right now, no community is safe from abortion. But your gift today can help ensure that SAFL’s loving presence, offering life-affirming alternatives, can reach every abortion-vulnerable mom in every community. Plus, your donation at sidewalkadvocates.org/donate will be MATCHED up to $200,000 to go even further – from now through March 28.

Please don’t misunderstand me: The Dobbs decision overturning Roe last June was a glorious victory for countless reasons! Tens of thousands of lives will be saved from abortion because of this Supreme Court decision alone. But we always knew there would be a population amenable to travel – especially when subsidized by abortion supporters. This is the new frontier of the abortion battle that we cannot afford to ignore as we pray and work to make post-Roe America an abortion-free America.

Please join our team today in this great mission – and thank you ahead of time for your YES!

In Christ, for Life,

Lauren Muzyka, Esq.

Facilities closed:

The permanent closure of an abortion or abortion-referral facility that had a Sidewalk Advocates for Life presence.

Workers who quit:

An abortion worker who was influenced by prayer and sidewalk advocacy to leave the business. We refer all workers to And Then There Were None, a ministry that assists abortion workers in transitioning out of the industry.

Hopeful saves:

A “hopeful save” is recorded when a pregnant woman leaves the abortion/abortion-referral facility still pregnant to “think about it,” armed with life-affirming literature and a referral to the local pregnancy resource center

Babies saved:

A baby is recorded as a “save” when a pregnant woman accepts our offer of help at the local pregnancy resource center (PRC), verbally shares that she has chosen life, or gives us very clear signs that she has chosen life.
