Dear Friend of Life:
It’s so hard to believe that Ireland, once a great pro-life country, voted just a couple of weeks ago to abolish their 8th Amendment that protected the lives of unborn children, and by extension, their mothers.
In the months leading up to the May 25th vote, Irish people of faith and conscience furiously campaigned across the Emerald Isle to save the country from the effects of legalized abortion. As they did so, they worked against the pro-abortion “Yes on 8” campaign, funded by billions of dollars that poured in from liberal billionaires like George Soros, the abortion industry around the globe, and so many more dark forces.
Even though this measure lost, the pro-life people of Ireland should be commended for their incredible work …and we should be reminded that there’s still great hope.
My prayer in recent days has been that Ireland would see great leaders of faith and conscience rise up and lead it back to its roots. And second, I was reminded of this: The world watches the United States, especially in the pro-life movement. There’s great hope that if we do our job in ending abortion here at home, other countries will be inspired to do the same.
A perfect example of this is found in Waco, Texas.
Last week — right after the sad news out of Ireland — Jeff and I from the National Team drove from the Dallas area to visit with Deborah, Nancy, and their team in Waco to be a blessing and see what their operations were like on the ground. Deborah and Nancy not only ran Sidewalk Advocates for Life-Waco, but the local Care Net Pregnancy Resource Center along with Care Net‘s mobile ultrasound bus and maternity home, among other programs. We also had the pleasure, ironically, of meeting Aine (pronounced, “ON-ya”) from Ireland who had relocated to the U.S. in the 90s — an amazing prayer warrior and Sidewalk Advocate!
Hands down, it was one of the best systems I’ve ever seen. From the sidewalk to their pregnancy center, they were literally making the local Planned Parenthood obsolete, in a sense, since they were finding ways to cover any need a woman might bring to the abortion facility and beyond.
After being on the sidewalk with them for hours and touring their state-of-the-art maternity home, ultrasound bus, support center, and more… I realized that this was the dream for every community, and it was gradually ending abortion in their community.
As further evidence, while we were on the sidewalk that day, two pregnant women chose to turn away from Planned Parenthood and accept our help on the ultrasound bus!
I realized, then, that in the aftermath of Ireland, our job is to do our part in ending abortion here in the United States so that we pave a way and inspire others to end abortion in their home country. We might not be able to fly over to Ireland often to do the hard work in creating systems of support to render the abortion industry customer-less, but we can help profoundly as we lead by example.
May we follow Waco’s example and end abortion by praying and doing our part to serve women-in-need!
