You Are Not Alone

“I will be a father to your little baby…”

A 16-year-old girl drove from Colorado Springs to the abortion facility in Albuquerque with her parents. All three walked into the facility together. After a while, the girl’s father emerged, and I asked him if we could talk. Looking distraught, he walked over.

As I talked to him, I learned that he and his wife were sick about their daughter having an abortion, but their teenager didn’t want to go through with the pregnancy. The father of the baby wanted nothing to do with his preborn child.

I explained to this father that there were options and help available to his daughter. I also told him about the harm that an abortion would cause her. Desperate, he cried and said that he was going to go back into the facility to talk to her.

After a little while the family came out and walked right to me. The father told his little girl:

There is help and support out there… you don’t have to do this. I will be a father to your little baby, like I was to you. We will do this together!

The mother, father, and expectant daughter all hugged as they wept, and each gave me a big hug and thanked me, too. Then the four of them drove home.

Sidewalk moments like this bring not only the joy of a life saved, but also a family healed.
