Finding “HELP” When She Needed It Most

Mom “J” sat inside the abortion facility. Accompanied by a close friend, she went back and forth about her appointment, unsure what to do. J was 19 weeks along and hesitant to have an abortion, but her circumstances seemed stacked against her. J’s relationship with her boyfriend was unstable, and her own mother wanted her to abort as well. Growing uncomfortable, she left her belongings in the waiting room to get some air with her friend.

Nate was outside on the sidewalk. A trained Sidewalk Advocate, he came ready to connect women with real, local help and to give them hope in a dark place. Nate saw J and her companion walking and approached the friend first. The friend shot Nate down quickly, “We don’t want to talk to you.”

“Wait,” J said. “I want to hear what he has to say.”

Nate spoke lovingly, sharing resources and help immediately available. In response, J asked to use Nate’s phone so she could text her own (still inside the abortion facility) and have a record of his number. She sent one word to herself: “HELP.”

J and her friend went back inside the facility. Still uncertain, J began to fill out paperwork for the abortion. As she did, tears fell onto the paper, and she recalled Nate’s promise of help for her and her preborn child. J then made the decision to leave the facility.

After leaving, J stayed in touch with Nate, who supported and encouraged her. J recognized that now she had help, and with that support, she realized her child would be a blessing in her life. J made a solid decision for life three weeks after she and Nate first met. Her sweet daughter Madisyn was born a few months later. Since then, J continues to share updates with Nate about Madisyn, who is a happy little girl.

Madisyn and her mother’s joy is such a gift to those who brave the sidewalk, especially knowing that it began with a moment of connection on the sidewalk, and J texted herself one takeaway … “HELP.” That is the best possible endorsement of our outreach that we could pray for!

This life-saving moment is one of the over 13,000 we have witnessed since 2014, along with 78 abortion workers who have quit (including an abortionist!) and 27 facilities that have closed. Praise God!

Submitted by Sidewalk Advocates for Life VP of Outreach Nate Robertson.

Your support makes these life-saving moments possible! Your gift right now, right here will help save more women and babies from abortion. Plus every gift made between now and August 31 will be doubled up to $100,000, thanks to a generous group of ministry partners. Thank you!

Facilities closed:

The permanent closure of an abortion or abortion-referral facility that had a Sidewalk Advocates for Life presence.

Workers who quit:

An abortion worker who was influenced by prayer and sidewalk advocacy to leave the business. We refer all workers to And Then There Were None, a ministry that assists abortion workers in transitioning out of the industry.

Hopeful saves:

A “hopeful save” is recorded when a pregnant woman leaves the abortion/abortion-referral facility still pregnant to “think about it,” armed with life-affirming literature and a referral to the local pregnancy resource center

Babies saved:

A baby is recorded as a “save” when a pregnant woman accepts our offer of help at the local pregnancy resource center (PRC), verbally shares that she has chosen life, or gives us very clear signs that she has chosen life.
