Meet Jenna!

Dear Friend of Life:

We’re growing!

It’s with great joy that we share with you the newest member of the Sidewalk Advocates for Life National Team — Jenna Scott!

Thanks to your many prayers and financial sacrifices, we were able to hire Jenna in order help with all of our research work, database management and future projects — and she has already been an immense blessing!

Jenna is a licensed attorney in the State of Washington. Prior to joining Sidewalk Advocates for Life, Jenna spent the last two years working as a contract investigator for the Federal government, but recently felt a call to serve in the pro-life movement. Additionally, she brings many strategic skills from past presidential and congressional campaign work to benefit the unborn.

Jenna holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs: Law, Diplomacy, and Organization from the University of Nevada, Reno (2006) and earned her J.D. from Ave Maria School of Law (AMSOL) in 2011. In the Summer of 2009, she also studied Russian Law and Negotiations in Moscow.

Her previous pro-life work includes being a volunteer lobbyist for the pro-life / pro-family cause, the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, in 2009 and 2010. From 2010-2011, she served as lead sidewalk counselor with AMSOL’s Lex Vitae Society.

Jenna was just married this past summer and currently lives in Louisiana with her new husband.

When asked what she is most excited about in regards to joining the SAFL team, she said: “I am very excited to be on board as we help communities around the country and the world provide a life-saving mission to their communities. We may be just individuals, but together we can move mountains and save lives!”

More about Jenna and our team here.

Additionally, don’t forget that applications to bring Sidewalk Advocates for Life to your local community this Fall are open through August 31! Ready to apply? You can do so here. Still have questions? Email us at info@sidewalkadvocates.org!

Part of the Sidewalk Advocates for Life National Team — Lauren, Ben & Michael — had the opportunity to attend the 4th annual National Sidewalk Counseling Symposium in Birmingham, AL about a week ago!

The symposium — a great “think tank” of ideas and best practices in sidewalk counseling — was sponsored by Pro-Life Action Ministries (an SAFL Program Advisor) and invited peaceful pro-life warriors from across the nation.

Talks included everything from the Purpose, Focus and Essence of Sidewalk Counseling to (Helping) Men & Minorities to Legal Rights of Sidewalk Counselors to Dealing with Mega Abortion Facilities …and more!

In summary, it was a great time of sharing and fellowship! Our team had a great opportunity to meet pro-life friends from across the country and visit with fellow leaders and brainstorm strategy and best practices. We also ran into some of our Program Directors at the event and had an opportunity to touch base!

Special thanks to Pro-Life Action Ministries — Brian Gibson, Rev. Brian Walker and staff (St. Paul, MN and Orlando, FL)! We also thank Pro-Life Action League — including Joe, Ann & Eric Scheidler — as well as John Jacubczyk, Fr. Frank Pavone, Rev. Walter & Lori Hoye and Guadalupe Partners for all of their insights!

WEEKLY DEVOTIONAL: “THE HARVEST IS COMING”

Verse(s): “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” — Galatians 6:9

Reflection: While we experience many high points as sidewalk counselors — sometimes we go through lulls without any sign of victory. It can be to hard to stand in front of the abortion center for hours, wondering if you’re having any effect on anyone entering the facility. It’s so easy to get discouraged sometimes.

Remember that quite often, we do not get the luxury of seeing all of the effects of our prayers and presence. But know that — no doubt — our presence has touched countless hearts and minds, simply by being there and praying for everyone.

One example to illustrate this …Ernie in Pensacola told us that one of his Sidewalk Advocates had been driving 1.5 hours to the abortion facility to minister regularly, but was wondering if she was having any effect on anyone sidewalk. Long story short, a woman she ministered to about 3-4 months ago — the mother of a 17-year old girl — recently called her to say that they had chosen life and now, needed help lining up resources for her daughter. God showed her that that “hopeful” had become a SAVE — and now, she is 5 months pregnant! So, Ernie and their team are busy helping this family — and this Sidewalk Advocate saw, indeed, that she had made a profound difference in someone’s life.

Call to Action: Keep in mind that you never know who you are blessing as you reach out in love — and keep the faith that, one day soon, we will reap the harvest if we do not give up! If you’re dealing with discouragement, take that to the Lord in prayer; let the quiet time refresh you and His great love for you encourage you! Don’t forget that the Resurrection is surely coming!

Facilities closed:

The permanent closure of an abortion or abortion-referral facility that had a Sidewalk Advocates for Life presence.

Workers who quit:

An abortion worker who was influenced by prayer and sidewalk advocacy to leave the business. We refer all workers to And Then There Were None, a ministry that assists abortion workers in transitioning out of the industry.

Hopeful saves:

A “hopeful save” is recorded when a pregnant woman leaves the abortion/abortion-referral facility still pregnant to “think about it,” armed with life-affirming literature and a referral to the local pregnancy resource center

Babies saved:

A baby is recorded as a “save” when a pregnant woman accepts our offer of help at the local pregnancy resource center (PRC), verbally shares that she has chosen life, or gives us very clear signs that she has chosen life.
