Give Me a Sign

“God, if I’m not supposed to do this, give me a sign.”

A 39-year-old single mom prayed out of desperation the night before she went to Planned Parenthood. With kids ages 22, 15, and 10 and pregnant with her fourth, she was daunted by the challenge in front of her. How could she start over again with a newborn? What if her baby had Down syndrome?

Plagued by the idea of her preborn child’s possible medical complications, the pregnant mom (we’ll call her Abigail) went to Planned Parenthood willing to go through with an abortion. But first, she wanted an ultrasound. To her shock and dismay, the workers refused to give her one. Abigail went outside for a minute to get some air.

An Answer to Prayers

Not too far away, Jackie stood on the sidewalk praying: “This week, I pray one mama chooses life for her baby.” Jackie has been a Sidewalk Advocate for a year and a half, and she is familiar with the ups and downs that come with sidewalk advocacy. She spotted Abigail coming out from the building and called out, “Is there anything we can pray about for you?”

Abigail walked over, feeling weary and uncertain. “I’m going through a really hard time right now,” she admitted. Jackie and a couple of other Sidewalk Advocates offered to pray aloud for her, and afterward asked, “Why are you here?”

“Well,” said Abigail, “I’m here for an abortion. They won’t let me have a sonogram, so honestly, I was going to go to my car to just scream.”

Jackie and her fellow Sidewalk Advocates told Abigail about the nearby pregnancy help center, where she could get an ultrasound right away. Eager, Abigail walked there with one of the advocates, and she was immediately given an ultrasound. In that moment, she met her baby girl — her first daughter after three sons. Abigail happily chose life and is due in December!

The Joy Didn’t Stop There!

The Sidewalk Advocates were so thrilled for Abigail that they threw her a huge baby shower! Abigail was given everything she needed and more for her daughter. Guests from all over came, including members of five different churches! After the shower was over and the guests were gone, Abigail approached her Sidewalk Advocate friends, crying:

“I came out of Planned Parenthood, and I invited my family. I invited my friends, but none of them would come! But you guys showed up and you don’t even know me! I came out of Planned Parenthood, and you looked like angels.”

Jackie gave glory to God, telling Abigail: “He answered your prayer, and He answered mine. All of this was because of Him.”

This life-saving moment is one of nearly 16,000 we have witnessed since 2014. These incredible victories are only made possible by YOU, our generous supporters, who enable us to cover abortion facilities with trained Sidewalk Advocates offering real help and hope.

Give the Gift of Life

As Christmas fast approaches, we are reminded that God so loved the world that He came to us in the most humble form of an infant child — protected by Mary and Joseph from the threat of death. And what a blessing it is to stand in that same place for so many preborn children who are threatened this Christmas, just as Christ was.

With your support, we can help pregnant women who are scared and desperate, like Abigail, to embrace the beautiful gift of life. Will you include LIFE on your Christmas list this year?

Babies saved:

A baby is recorded as a “save” when a pregnant woman accepts our offer of help at the local pregnancy resource center (PRC), verbally shares that she has chosen life, or gives us very clear signs that she has chosen life.
