Monica was a young mom to two children, and she was pregnant with her third. Pressured by her family, facing marital struggles, and anxious about finances, she made an appointment at the abortion facility. When she arrived, she saw Elaine offering her a smile on the sidewalk.
Elaine connected Monica with the help she needed and accompanied her to the nearby pregnancy resource center. Upon arriving, Monica recognized the center staff as they had helped her in the past! She immediately joined a mom’s group and urged Elaine to hurry back to the sidewalk to help more moms. Monica was then referred to another nearby center with an ultrasound technician on site. She and her husband went to the ultrasound appointment, where Monica heard her baby’s heartbeat and became convicted by the beauty of the life she was carrying. Together, she and her husband chose life!
Insecure about her motherhood, her family, and her future, Monica not only found the courage to choose life, she also found a support system on the sidewalk and at two different pregnancy resource centers. When she gave birth, our local Program Leader Melissa brought her a gift and forged a friendship that lasts to this day. (Monica’s little boy goes to school with Melissa’s son, and they enjoy birthday festivities together!)
Through this journey, Monica’s confidence as a mother and her relationship with God have grown. Eight years later, she returned to offer her gratitude to the amazing team who helped her and her husband chart a miraculous new course for their family. And in another story twist only our Lord could author — the sonogram technician who showed Monica and her husband the first image of their baby was at the pregnancy resource center when Monica returned to offer her joyful thanks:
“You have saved my son’s life and then also changed [me]. Please continue to do that and then have a strong impact [on] other people like me who need help.”
