Meet Maria

Maria — a single mom of two — was 26-weeks pregnant and preparing to travel to Washington, D.C. for a late-term abortion. It was fully paid for by an abortion fund: airfare, hotel, meals, and the procedure itself. Thousands upon thousands of dollars covered by abortion donors … all she had to do was show up.

Then God intervened …

Through a divine connection, our President & CEO Lauren was able to reach Maria just in time. She told Maria she didn’t have to do this. That she wasn’t alone. That we would walk with her every step of the way.

And we did. Because of generous supporters, we rallied fast — offering immediate help, emotional support, and life-affirming community. We even had the honor of throwing her a beautiful baby shower.

Maria canceled the abortion. She said she had never seen the pro-life movement show up like this. But the story didn’t end there.

In the weeks that followed, the abortion fund relentlessly harassed her—calling and texting multiple times a day pressuring her to reschedule. They told her she was being lied to. That she’d regret this forever. That she’d struggle for the rest of her life if she didn’t go through with the abortion. They worked overtime to drown out the truth.

We continued to stand by Maria — meeting every critical need, speaking life into her heart, and reminding her she was not alone. And when Lauren visited her in the hospital after Jesús was born, Maria looked at her through tears and said…

“I owe you my baby’s life.”

Her words pierced Lauren’s heart. And they became a call to action:

Maria’s Fund: A Rapid Response to Abortion-Pressure Tactics

Sidewalk Advocates for Life is planning to launch a bold new initiative called Maria’s Fund—a rapid-response abortion counter-fund designed to empower abortion-vulnerable women facing an unexpected pregnancy with the practical help they need to choose life. BUT we need YOUR help to make this life-saving response a reality.

Every day, women like Maria are being offered thousands of dollars by abortion industry groups to kill their children — plane tickets, hotel stays, meals, and the abortion itself, all fully covered. And when a mom is exhausted, scared, and living paycheck to paycheck (or with no reliable income at all), that kind of offer can feel like her only “way out.”

Maria’s fund will provide immediate assistance for women facing intense pressure to abort, especially those who have already crossed state lines and now want to return home and embrace life. Just as importantly, it equips our 282 Sidewalk Advocate teams across the country with the training, tools, and confidence to respond with compassion and speed at the exact moment it matters most.

This is not just a financial safety net — it’s a bridge to hope. And with your help, it can be the turning point for countless moms and babies.

We cannot let the abortion industry outmatch us at the moment of decision. Not when we can offer something better — real hope and real help for mom, and a real future for her child.

Will you join us in building Maria’s Fund?

Every gift made HERE between now and August 12 will help launch Maria’s Fund and will be DOUBLED up to $250,000, thanks to a dollar-for-dollar match gifted by a generous group of donors.

Together, we can ensure no woman stands alone, and that more babies like Jesús are given the chance to live.

Thank you!

Facilities closed:

The permanent closure of an abortion or abortion-referral facility that had a Sidewalk Advocates for Life presence.

Workers who quit:

An abortion worker who was influenced by prayer and sidewalk advocacy to leave the business. We refer all workers to And Then There Were None, a ministry that assists abortion workers in transitioning out of the industry.

Hopeful saves:

A “hopeful save” is recorded when a pregnant woman leaves the abortion/abortion-referral facility still pregnant to “think about it,” armed with life-affirming literature and a referral to the local pregnancy resource center

Babies saved:

A baby is recorded as a “save” when a pregnant woman accepts our offer of help at the local pregnancy resource center (PRC), verbally shares that she has chosen life, or gives us very clear signs that she has chosen life.
