In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry are open for business. In fact, we have received reports that some facilities have seen a noticeable influx of women.
Knowing that most women seeking abortion do so because of financial concerns, there’s no doubt they are using the economic strain of the COVID-19 crisis to sell even more women the lie of abortion as a solution.Â
Sidewalk Advocates for Life (SAFL) remains committed to providing our Sidewalk Advocates at more than 200 locations with the training, tools, and — most especially now — the SUPPORT needed to continue connecting abortion-minded women with loving, life-affirming alternatives.
As our locations seek to comply with federal and local guidelines for public safety, SAFL is working tirelessly to monitor the situation and adjust strategies as needed; our goal is to ensure that Sidewalk Advocates have the best available information to carry out their life-saving mission safely and responsibly.
Currently, all Sidewalk Advocates have been instructed to find a balance in maintaining coverage at the abortion facility when possible while also working to fight the spread of COVID-19. Truly, the pro-life community has a duty to protect ALL life, and it is in the spirit of this commitment that SAFL has laid out new guidelines for navigating outreach at this time:
- All Sidewalk Advocates have been asked to follow federal and local guidelines for public health. This includes recommendations for social distancing and hygiene.
- Sidewalk Advocates who are especially vulnerable to COVID-19, including older Advocates and those with serious underlying health conditions, have been encouraged to join us in prayer from their homes.  Advocates have been urged to consider all risk factors for contracting and spreading the virus when discerning whether or not to go to the sidewalk.
- All local Program Directors have been asked to maintain a small but effective presence in front of abortion facilities when possible. Being that our outreach isn’t dependent on large groups and focuses, instead, on one-on-one conversations with abortion-minded women, this will not interfere with our effectiveness.
- We have provided a virtual training option for each one of our locations.
We have made these recommendations with the understanding that, as things may change from moment to moment, we will monitor the situation closely and keep in touch.
Sidewalk Advocates have a reputation for being generous with their time in front of abortion facilities — truly, this dedication has led to more than 12,000 lives saved in our short history! But we also know that we have a duty to protect Sidewalk Advocates and other vulnerable members of the community. For those who will not be on the sidewalk during the pandemic — knowing the foundation of all we do is prayer — SAFL has invited them to redouble their prayer efforts for our cause from home. Â
