The Power of an Offered Prayer

Building relationships takes time – especially when a Sidewalk Advocate is trying to build a relationship with an abortion worker. Two of our trained advocates in the Southeast recently shared the fruit of their patient dedication and skilled outreach.

Sidewalk Advocates Cathy and Mary had been reaching out to workers at their local abortion facility for years with slow progress. One day when an abortion worker exited her car, Mary asked if there was anything they could pray for her specifically. The worker (we’ll call her Michelle) replied, “Yes, will you pray for my son?” “Yes, we’re going to pray for your son right now,” Mary told her.

After a while, Michelle began waving to the Sidewalk Advocates behind her back, so no one inside the facility could see. Then she began to converse with them – but she did so while holding her phone up to her ear, again so no one would notice.

Cathy shared her phone number with Michelle so they could have a real conversation, and one night, Michelle phoned. That phone call was the beginning of Michelle’s plans to leave the abortion industry. And this past summer, she finally resigned! “The last few days she was there, every day she was trying to save babies,” Cathy explained. One Saturday, she told Cathy, “I saved four lives!” One of them was a set of twins!

The Sidewalk Advocates stayed in close contact with Michelle as she transitioned away from the industry with the help of our friends at And Then There Were None. Since leaving, Michelle has experienced joy at her newfound freedom, coupled with dismay that she was stuck in the abortion industry for so many years. Michelle shared:

I just don’t know how I got there, but God guided me on why I should leave!

Sidewalk Advocates are present at these critical moments, offering Christ’s love not only to pregnant moms, but to every person we encounter on the sidewalk. With your help and God’s grace, we can continue to save lives and impact souls!

Support our mission to reach Every Sidewalk, Every Soul, at sidewalkadvocates.org/give.

Facilities closed:

The permanent closure of an abortion or abortion-referral facility that had a Sidewalk Advocates for Life presence.

Workers who quit:

An abortion worker who was influenced by prayer and sidewalk advocacy to leave the business. We refer all workers to And Then There Were None, a ministry that assists abortion workers in transitioning out of the industry.

Hopeful saves:

A “hopeful save” is recorded when a pregnant woman leaves the abortion/abortion-referral facility still pregnant to “think about it,” armed with life-affirming literature and a referral to the local pregnancy resource center

Babies saved:

A baby is recorded as a “save” when a pregnant woman accepts our offer of help at the local pregnancy resource center (PRC), verbally shares that she has chosen life, or gives us very clear signs that she has chosen life.
