Week 8 (May 18-24, 2014): God Can End Abortion

By Lauren Muzyka, Executive Director, Sidewalk Advocates for Life

Verse(s): “Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.’” — Matthew 19:26

Reflection: 40 years. 56 million children. Millions of women and men wounded. Apathetic churches and a dismissive culture.

Sometimes it feels like abortion is really here to stay.

But our Lord tells us in His Word that he has conquered ALL sin and death — and the grace to end this scourge is already available through the power of His cross and resurrection.

He gives us the prescription in 2 Chronicles 7:14: “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

Right away in this verse, God is getting our attention! We are His people, called by his name.

He first asks us to humble ourselves. And here’s something we must face: if we gathered all of our gifts and talents, political prowess, media connections, and financial resources, we still wouldn’t have enough to end abortion! We’ve been trying to do it for 40 years, right?

In the next part, God tells us to pray and seek His face in everything we do. Yes, we’re not the answer — HE is the answer!

And we must turn from our wicked ways. We must repent of those things we have done wrong — and the righteous things that we have failed to do. And I submit to you that abortion would not still be the law of our land BUT FOR the silence of God’s people.

But here’s the good news… THEN.

God tells us that if we turn to Him with our whole selves, THEN he will hear from Heaven, He will forgive our sin, and He will heal our land!

That’s the prescription that ails your community, your country and our world. And if we build our hope on that, He promises that we will never fail! We must press forward in faith, believing that these words are true!

Call to Action: Do you really believe God can end abortion? If not, why? Take that to prayer and ask God to give you His vision for respecting and defending human life. Then, believe and trust in the power of His grace to do anything …even end abortion! Ask Him how He wants to do that through YOU!
