WEEKLY DEVOTIONAL (JANUARY 4-10, 2015): “BEFORE WE WERE BORN”

By Jeff Reedy

Verse(s): “You will become pregnant and have a son whose head is never to be touched by a razor because the boy is to be a Nazirite, dedicated to God from the womb. He will take the lead in delivering Israel from the hands of the Philistines.” — Judges 13:5

Reflection: Throughout Scripture, we read about angels bringing good news to people. And very often, this good news involves children. It is clearly good news to God when mothers are blessed with children. And He clearly loves them from the moment of their conception, while still in the womb.

This verse talks about how wonderful the hero Sampson will be. And Sampson’s story begins before he is even conceived. God has plans for him long before he was born. He was dedicated to God “from the womb”.

God has great plans for all of the unborn babies in the wombs of the women who visit abortion clinics every day, too. Let us pray for them every day, that they say yes to life and receive the great blessings that God has for them and their children. Let us also pray for the advocates who work diligently to give these women alternatives. And finally let us remember to pray for the abortion workers themselves, that they say yes to life and leave their clinics to find new work, as ten workers already have done in 2014.

Faith Challenge: Say a prayer every day this week for all those at abortion facilities: unborn children, mothers, counselors, and abortion workers. Let us persevere in praying for miracles!

Facilities closed:

The permanent closure of an abortion or abortion-referral facility that had a Sidewalk Advocates for Life presence.

Workers who quit:

An abortion worker who was influenced by prayer and sidewalk advocacy to leave the business. We refer all workers to And Then There Were None, a ministry that assists abortion workers in transitioning out of the industry.

Hopeful saves:

A “hopeful save” is recorded when a pregnant woman leaves the abortion/abortion-referral facility still pregnant to “think about it,” armed with life-affirming literature and a referral to the local pregnancy resource center

Babies saved:

A baby is recorded as a “save” when a pregnant woman accepts our offer of help at the local pregnancy resource center (PRC), verbally shares that she has chosen life, or gives us very clear signs that she has chosen life.
