Verse(s): “But we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word.” — Acts 6:4
Reflection: I often hear, “Well, all I can do is pray…” as if prayer is inferior to any other action! In truth, prayer is the most important thing we can do!
The command to pray is found throughout scripture. We are to “give ourselves continually to prayer” (see Acts 6:4) and “pray without ceasing” (see 1 Thess 5:17). It’s not a matter of saying a 5 minute prayer one time and then it is done — it’s something we must do over and over again, continually.
Every frustration, inconvenience and challenge, in fact, can be offered as a prayer. Our work can be offered as a prayer. Our small acts of love can be offered as a prayer. Our very lives can be offered as a continuous prayer as we seek to do the will of the Father. All things can be offered up for our precious advocates on the sidewalk as they seek to save lives and we ultimately work for an end to abortion.
Faith Challenge: Let’s not become complacent in our prayer life. Today, I challenge you to pray continually for an end to abortion. I know that many of you have been praying for an end to abortion for years, but I encourage you to not grow weary! Continue praying each and every day for the greatest human rights cause of our times — who knows what miracles await those who do not give up! (See Galatians 6:9) There is great power in prayer!
